PURITY
I was trying to keep this album pure
But the malice of the world keeps on knocking at my door
I wanted to give hope never meant to entertain
All the study and the writing could never be in vain
And don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with that
It’s just me who is sick and tired of these games of little man
Who try to use me as their income
The face the voice the body and the wisdom
I’m the woman whose story’s never been told
Actually I’m all women whose stories have been put on hold
For some man’s sake
By some man’s faith
They say it’s safe this way
But now I ask
Safe for who ?
Safe as contraceptive pills that causes thrombosis and sad
moods?
You gave us medication to control what your dicks can’t
And then you call us crazy,
you hate the secondary effects
We’ve been under diagnosed for ages compared to you
Cause in theory women endure the pain much better than you
Research of Female specific conditions have been underfunded
Cause we are women warriors but still the weaker gender
Isn’t it ironic ? I love these double standards
It’s like we need protection till you lose the upper hand
Every time you need to save your own skin we are more than
capable
Suddenly we’re strong, Petty and unbreakable
I’m done with searching for purity
I’m done enduring the pain
I’m done pretending it’s fine by me
Oh your morals ain’t nothing but chains
I went on national tv to promote a new song
My family watched it in real time
I felt lucky to have support
Soon as I leaved the set
I received a couple calls
“You did so well but we need to tell
You need to choose better your clothes
You looked fat like you were pregnant
And those braids don’t fit you you ain’t a black girl
You have such beautiful hair why you insist to use hairstyles of
people who don’t have it ?”
Suddenly all my efforts were in vain
It didn’t matter how I spoke
didn’t matter how sang
All that mattered was my stomach
too swollen to be seen
And my hair that was too black to please my whitewashed
family
I wonder
how the hell did all this start ?
Women being judged like paintings
Our brains are the real art
Was it the genesis
Spread on gods behalf
Descendent of a man’s rib ?
Don’t make me laugh
I’m done with searching for purity
I’m done enduring the pain
I’m done pretending it’s fine by me
Oh your morals ain’t nothing but chains
Our need to overcome the struggle
Is our strength
And maybe that is needed to face labor
To face death
So many times I wonder
if we only came to suffer
Cause it takes a woman’s pain
for everyone’s first breath
My heroes are female
Fought great wars undercover
But were considered just a detail
Were inventors, poets, traders
But history is still male
My heroes are female
Single mothers of 5
Work 3 jobs to raise their children
My heroes are female
Clean up bathrooms in rich houses
Out of shame they do it hidden
My heroes are female
Always survive
Always rise
I wish your stories had been written
Against the odds
But blessed by gods
The bravest people I know
are all women
I’m done with searching for purity
I’m done enduring the pain
I’m done pretending it’s fine by me
Oh your morals ain’t nothing but chains
Your morals ain’t nothing but chains
