We’re writing new material and doing some pre-production. Sometimes, to get the creative juices flowing, we revisit older songs to feel how much our approach to them changed, or we play around with songs from other artists that inspire us in some way. On this session we’ve captured some videos of these experiences, and we’ll be sharing them with you. The first is a classic song from the greatest Portuguese artist of all time, the first to tour internationally in the 50s and 60s, Amalia Rodrigues. It’s a song that has been covered a million times, but to our knowledge, never by a Rock’n’Roll band. It’s a somewhat tired tune to every one here in our little west European backyard, but, for all of you everywhere else, maybe it’s a way of getting acquainted with a bit of our culture, wrapped in an aesthetic more familiar to you. All the recordings in this session were played live in a single take, without overdubs, edits or any studio tricks whatsoever. One little piece of trivia, a famous version of this song was recorded by the great Dulce Pontes, and included in the movie “Primal Fear” with Richard Gere. She is famous for being a pioneer on the new wave of modern traditional music and her collaborations with Ennio Morricone. In 1993 the album “Lágrimas” was recorded in this same location, Namouche Studios. Have a listen, and hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as we do!
